     I’ve been a breaks head for a
long while.  One thing I don’t
get is how can the owner of Ghetto Funk (Will “Streetwise” Lardner)
co-run Breakspoll and present themselves with the best label award?!
The other three individuals that run Breakspoll Jimmy Brayks, Abel
Reynolds and Ash Richardson have also given their NSB radio station, NSB
website and Fingerlickin’ Management roster artists awards/nominations
too! Not saying it’s fixed, but it does come across a bit suss when the
four that run Breakspoll walk away with the majority of the awards for
their own interests…is that not fair comment? Or maybe it is just
    coincidence? Adam.

We don’t run Breakspoll we are employed by Breakspoll to run and organise the event. The reason we are payed to promote the event is because Jim, Abel and myself are very good at what we do. Its a public vote, end of storey. Its not fixed in anyway shape or form. There is no way in a million years we thought we would win best breaks label. It was a total shock and anyone who actually knows me will vouch for that. You have to remember “someone” has to organise breakspoll and their bound to be working within the breaks scene.

        Hey Will

Fair play for replying, but without wishing to sound rude, of course you would say that you don’t have an influence on voting, wouldn’t you…?!  When you look at the number of acts/interests that you, Jimmy and Abel have  in the nominations it’s obviously going to raise eyebrows whether you’re leaving it to the public vote or not – particularly when your label/website/radio station and artists all win.

There are no independent adjudicators for these awards so we only have you word (and that of your friends/colleagues).  The point being made here, is that it’s simply not good enough for the organisers to insist it’s not fixed.  You need an independent system if your awards are ever going to have true cred or meaning.

I guess another question on many people’s minds is: how can a label that is releasing only illegal bootleg music and profiting from other people’s work, be best label when there are so many labels putting out original music?

It’s food for thought Will.  Don’t expect you to agree with the above.  Ghetto Funk has a lot of likes on facebook but sometimes it’s about quality, not just quantity.

The debate will go on.  Appreciate the reply though…

        Cheers
        Adam

          Adam

You seem hellbent on bad mouthing these awards at every opportunity you get and I can see no reason for your badly informed comments.
Breakspoll is owned and operated by Tim Harris. Apart from not being that into breaks anymore, or living in England, and being a fucking computer genius, the guy INDEPENDENTLY adjudicates the awards, detects spammers, and runs the entire awards process. He has no vested interest in who wins or who loses. No-one apart from him has access to the votes or winners. This is how it’s always been and has always worked flawlessly. Breakspoll is a PUBLIC vote, not “the Adam vote” so sorry you and your friends didnt win, as your comments just shout of sour grapes.
Tim came to me when he could no longer organise the awards EVENT, due to a lack of promotional knowledge and lack of general interest. Me and Biff Mitchell from Glade ran them for a year. Then me and Jimmy Mofo ran it for 3 years. Last year I broke my leg, so was going to cancel the awards. Abel, Will and Ash, who I don’t really know that well and who do not work together normally all stepped up and offered to help. I ran he event as best I could from bed!! And those guys stepped up and did the rest. Their involvement in the event is my fault and I now feel sorry for them as their involvement has seemingly dirtied their excellent work in the scene as some people are just fucking idiots and cannot see the wood for the trees.
This year I was at the event and ran the majority of it, but those guys all still helped run it, but after this experience this year, now NONE of us want anything to do with it.
Anyone who knows me, 1) knows I don’t give a shit about the NSB website winning an award – I truly hope that someone else builds a site that the breaks scene can use as a central focus as the forum doesn’t! Unfortunately NSB has many thousands of fans, and no other site comes close. Really sorry about that!! And 2) apart from costing me about £150 a month to run (what a cunt I am!) I haven’t been involved with NSB Radio for about 4 years. Which is why I’ve only once accepted the award for it. What a cunt I must be.
So congratulations Adam, yours and others stupid moaning has killed off 4 key peoples enthusiasm for the breaks scene. Everyone give Adam a clap, as he’s about to do something really fucking amazing (don’t hold your breath)
If this comes across as angry, it’s because I am. If this comes across as that I’m passionate about breaks, it’s because I am. And if it comes across as that I’m talking to you like a cunt, it’s because you are.
Oh and as always, in between listening to cunts who know nothing talk like they know something, I’m actually extremely approachable, so feel free to ring me if you want 07903949222
          Keep on trucking.

I’m glad the four of you have no more enthusiasm for the breaks scene.  Maybe it will move forward now…

You’re angry and defensive because the truth has hit a nerve…of course you’re going to try and convince us all that it was all above board and that I’m the bad guy.

I’ve said my bit – I’ll let you continue your rant and let off some steam…self obsession is destructive, Jimmy.

Relax Natural Nate, I mean, “Adam”…

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002361930227 Will Streetwise

Adam why not meet Jim, myself and Abel in London next week and lets sit down and have a chat about all this. You seem hell bent to not believe us and we have tried to explain it but I’m guessing thats not enough for you so why not have a meeting with us. Air your grievances and we can look at moving this forward. After all its an award voted for by the people, you are a person so you have a right to your say. Publicly slating us on a forum is no way to go about it and if I’m honest quiet un professional.

I was at a vinyl distributors on friday and they said that Ghettofunk is ‘hands down’ their biggest account…. We then went to Final Tweak (Google it if you don’t know) where ALL of the staff went out of their way to said that what Will, Slim & Co have achieved in such a short time is “amazing”, branding/marketing/business methods were “inspiring” and they think Ghettofunk’s formula could be the future for VINYL BASED labels. Regardless of weather you consider it to be Breakbeat or not Ghettofunk is a huge new and innovative label. An award well deserved in my opinion!

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/RLSTQ64SVJTXLMHFO5A7QVCWUA Joke

Olly – the music GF and other booty labels release is illegal…so therefore the distributor is breaking the law by putting this music out…not a very professional thing to do really so their judgement cannot really be taken seriously.
